TLC Foundation

Cultivating Resources for This Generation and the Next

The TLC Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to, but legally separate from, Transfiguration Lutheran Church and the Board of Directors operates independently, including establishing and carrying out its policies. Gifts to the Foundation are OVER and ABOVE regular pledging or tithing in support of the annual budget. Income from the Foundation fund is used to expand the ministries of Transfiguration Lutheran Church, which would not be possible within fiscal limits of the regular church budget.

Terry Bonertz - President

My wife Karen and I were married at TLC in 1986. I have served as an usher, TLC Council Treasurer, as a member of the Mission and Outreach team, and participated in vision and planning meetings. Currently I am serving on the Stewardship Committee, as a Lector, and am on the TLC Foundation. I have had a lifelong interest in investing and efficient allocation of money. This interest is supported by an MBA and a B.S. in Economics. It has been fun and enjoyable serving in all the roles and working with everyone.

Baron Broschat – Treasurer

I am a retired CPA who spent most of my work life at Lutheran Brotherhood for 25 years and the nonprofit Loaves and Fishes for 10 years.

My wife and I first became aware of TLC when we started attending their outdoor services in the
mid-90s at Dawn Valley which is near our home. We eventually followed Pastor Craig Johnson from
Mt. Olivet to TLC in 1996. We liked the location and sense of community at TLC. Over the years I have
been involved in ushering and counting offering. I have been a member of the Foundation Board off
and on for around 20 years, mostly as treasurer.

I enjoy walking, reading, golfing and following Minnesota sports teams. I have been a member of the church softball team for more years than I can remember.

I was born and raised in Willmar, MN. I attended St Cloud State University graduating with a degree in Accounting. I work in Corporate Accounting at Cargill. My husband Steve and I have lived in Bloomington and been members of TLC for 28 years. We have two grown children, Emily and Colby, who were both baptized and confirmed at TLC. I have been a Sunday School Teacher, and have served on the Stewardship Team and Financial Review Team. I enjoy watching tennis and Vikings football, hiking, cross-country skiing, picnics, and time with my family.

2025 is my first year serving on the TLC Foundation Board. Long service is not a requirement of the job but I have a member for over 45 years and have been on the church council, personnel, call team, stewardship, and property (when we laid sod “green side up” following the construction of our current sanctuary). I’ve been attending the Thursday morning men’s Bible study, playing in the golf league, serving as usher, greeter and Michelle’s “lector of last resort”. For most of these years I have sung in the choir except when I took a few years off for a mental health break and discovered that my mental health was better when I was singing. So I signed on for a couple more decades.

Phyllis and I are both native New Englanders (RI & CT). We have two daughters who live in Albuquerque and Woodland Hills CA. I worked for two manufacturing companies in RI & MN before spending many years in HR management with a local marketing communications agency, and additional years working part-time at the Bachman’s store on Lyndale Ave. Fully retired for past 3 years. We enjoy visits to family & friends on the east and west coasts and some occasional international travel.

Volunteering at TLC, and specifically serving on the Foundation Board, is a sort of repayment and a thank you for the contributions of many valued past and current members who generously provided their skills and resources to supporting this congregation

As a TLC member for over 50 years and have been on the Foundation since 2008 with a one three year gap. Starting in 2013 I served four years as the Foundation treasurer. I was the TLC Council Treasurer for 3 years in the early 2000’s.

I grew up on a small farm in Estes Brook.  I graduated from Milaca HS then St. Cloud Vo-Tech. After moving to Mpls I worked for CDC-MPI, Wang Labs, Burlington Northern RR and Wells Fargo in service and support. I retired from Wells Fargo after 28 years supporting HR call center technology.

Keith and I were married at TLC in 1983. (He grew up at TLC.) We have two daughters (Samantha and Becky) and six grandchildren.  Our girls were baptized and confirmed, and our oldest was married at TLC. We have lived in Eden Prairie since 1985.  I have served as Sunday school and Confirmation teacher, participated in various mission trips to Luther Dell and New Orleans, and served on the Stewardship committee.  Currently I am serving on the Financial Review team and as a Lector.   Since retiring, I take care of three of our granddaughters.  Volunteering has always been a part of my life. I have always loved the church community at TLC, and while I did not grow up in the Lutheran church, TLC has always felt like family.  When not babysitting, I enjoy reading, sewing and gardening, and spending time with the grand kids. My favorite verse is Prov 3: 5-6.
