TRANSFIGURATION LUTHERAN CHURCH (TLC) is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a Christian denomination that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. A church that is always being made new, and at the same time is deeply rooted in Scripture, Lutheran theology and Lutheran confession.

Before officially becoming Transfiguration Lutheran Church, the first worship service was held on November 4, 1956 at Westwood Elementary School, a few short blocks northeast of TLC's present location.  On April 4, 1957 TLC was officially formed, with its name on the charter being “Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration.”

Today, as then, TLC is a dynamic, welcoming community of faith. Members, newcomers and those who yearn to know God are invited to Gather in Grace, Grow in Faith, and Go Forth to Serve.

There's much more than can be read on our website.  Please come visit TLC in person to experience and discover all that Transfiguration Lutheran Church is and can be for you and yours.  In addition to worship services on Sunday and Wednesday evening, we have a variety of hospitality gatherings; special events like the blessing of the animals (your domestic pets), adult and youth retreats, knitting, walking, health awareness programs, and grief support.  Select the Ministries button above for more details.

Worship at Transfiguration is an opportunity to experience God’s transforming presence.  All are invited to gather to sing praise and offer prayers to the One who gives us life. We grow in faith as we listen to God’s word and join others at the communion table. And, we go forth from worship refreshed in spirit and ready to share ourselves with a world in need. Worship services are held on Sundays, Wednesdays and other religious commemorative days. Services include Holy Communion, Baptisms, a segment for children, and more. Nursery and Sunday School are also provided.

TLC offers a quality music curriculum steeped in the traditions of Lutheran church music while maintaining active and growing programs for all age levels within the congregation. TLC music programs include vocal groups and instrumental ensembles.  Nearly every  worship service at TLC is filled with the talents of one or more music groups. We are blessed with organ/piano accompaniment to the enduring beauty, appeal and power of our worship hymns.

Youth & Family ministries help provide dynamic leadership, visioning, and organization for TLC youth and family members. TLC encourages all to be disciples of Jesus through active participation in our programs that serve to strengthen relationships, faith, and grace within the family.

Children are offered wonderful opportunities to grow and develop spiritually, cognitively, emotionally, and physically.  TLC's Early Learning Center and Children Ministries includes Sunday school and Vacation Bible School (VBS), along with Early Communion, Bible & Baptism classes, Milestone Ministries, nursery and much, much more.

TLC provides Young Adult ministries where faith and life merge in positive, exciting ways.

Health and Wellness ministries and programs for care, encouragement and education through groups such as TLC Walkers, Quilters, Care Mail Crafters, Prayer Chains, Health & Fitness programs, and of course, much more!  TLC has active Mental Health and Addiction Awareness teams too.

Volunteers are vital and TLC is dependent on volunteers to help keep the doors open.  We need your and others' dedication to support the church.  The most visible roles are ushers, greeters, children’s ministry and musicians. There are also many behind-the-scenes support ways to volunteer both at the church and in the community.
New member classes are offered several times a year to anyone seeking to join TLC and wishing to explore what it means to be a Christian. The class discusses the foundations of our faith, the vision of our church, and offers time to ask questions about the church and Lutheran traditions while building new relationships.

I have such a busy schedule. Is the class schedule flexible?
Our New Member Class is taught in one session, usually on a Sunday afternoon and includes a light lunch. Child care is provided. Please call or email the church office for information about the next scheduled class.

It was 2013 when TLC underwent a seven-month long intentional discussion on the  issue of marriage equality. After much discussion and a survey of the  congregation, it was determined TLC was largely supportive of welcoming  families and individuals regardless of sexual orientation.

The TLC  council unanimously voted in 2014 to adopt this official welcome statement:

Transfiguration Lutheran Church welcomes all who seek to experience the joy of God’s love and grace.
We welcome all because God welcomes all people of every race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, and relationship status. Our unity is in Christ. Therefore we walk with each other through addictions, physical and mental illnesses, legal and socio-economic circumstances and other life challenges.

All are welcome here. You are welcome here.

The council also voted to seek rostered status as a member of ReconcilingWorks. ReconcilingWorks is an organization of laypeople, pastors, and congregations primarily from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) working for the full acceptance and inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions in the life of the Church.

In October 2014, Transfiguration Lutheran Church was officially accepted as a member of ReconcilingWorks and included in their directory of congregations. You can learn more about ReconcilingWorks at: www.reconcilingworks.org
